The basics

Funded trading, sometimes called "prop trading", is a way to trade with someone else's capital instead of your own.

Here's how it works:

  1. 01You pay a challenge fee, a one-time payment to enter an evaluation.
  2. 02You prove your skills by hitting a profit target while staying within risk limits.
  3. 03You get funded. Pass the challenge and you receive a funded account to trade with.
  4. 04You keep the profits. Up to 90% of what you make is yours.

Your personal capital is never at risk beyond the challenge fee. If you breach the rules, the account closes, but you don't owe anything.

Why do prop firms exist?

Prop firms like Velotrade provide capital to skilled traders who may not have (or may feel uncomfortable to deploy) large amounts of their own money to trade with.

What's a trading challenge?

A trading challenge is an evaluation phase where you demonstrate your skills on a demo account with simulated funds.

You need to:

  • Hit a profit target (e.g., 5% or 10%).
  • Stay within daily and overall loss limits.
  • Trade for a minimum number of days.
How the limits work
  • Daily loss: Your equity can't fall more than 4% (1-Step) or 5% (2-Step) below your previous day's closing balance. Resets every day at 00:30 UTC.
  • Max drawdown: CLASSIC 1-Step: floor fixed at 93% of starting balance. CLASSIC 2-Step: floor fixed at 90% of starting balance. PRO 1-Step: floor fixed at 97% of starting balance. All floors are static, set at activation and never moved.

Once you pass, you receive a funded account. This is still a simulated account with demo features, but with pricing drawn from real Tier 1 exchanges, designed to emulate a real trading scenario. Your profits, however, are paid out in real money.

What happens if I fail?

If you breach the rules during the challenge, the evaluation ends. You can purchase a new challenge and try again. There's no penalty beyond the fee you already paid.

Some traders pass on their first attempt. Others take a few tries. What matters is learning from each experience.

Velotrade is multi-asset. Leverage varies by asset class: 6x for large-cap crypto (BTC, ETH, SOL), gold (XAU), and index ETFs (SPY, QQQ), 3x for mid-cap crypto and other commodities, and 2x for stocks and small-cap crypto. Challenge and funded leverage may differ. Forex is coming soon.
